Broadway Master Class: Matthew Furtado

Join puppeteer and actor Matthew Furtado MAY 23rd for an interactive workshop where you’ll learn the secrets to bringing puppets to life! This isn’t just about how to move a puppet but how to act through a puppet character so that the audience believes they’re thinking, feeling and even breathing!
Your arms may be a little tired but you’ll have a lot of fun exploring this fascinating art form. Matt will also share his experience working on Broadway, TV, national tours and in regional theater. You’ll hear behind-the-scenes stories and discover how what you’re working on now as a performer applies directly to professional show business.
*Matthew Furtado made his Broadway debut as a puppeteer supporting The Muppets at the historic Broadhurst Theatre in 2025 working closely with Disney and The Muppets Studio to help bring the characters to life on stage.!
Matt has had the privilege of being part of every major production of the stage version of the beloved holiday classic, Jim Henson’s Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas,directed by Tony-winner Christopher Gattelli, since its 2008 beginnings, appearing at Goodspeed, 54 Below, The New Victory Theater in Times Square and at The Studebaker Theater in Chicago where he and his puppeteer colleagues were honored with a special Jeff Award nomination for excellence in theater. He’s even puppeteered on the radio(!), taking over NPR’s Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! as a skunk!
Matt has been part of television puppeteer workshops at Sesame Street and performed 600 shows with Sesame Street LIVE and Dragon Tales LIVE on tourin 11 countries with weeks at Madison Square Garden, The Pantages on Hollywood Boulevard and Mexico’s 10,000-seat Auditorio Nacional.
Other highlights include several PBS series, TV appearances with legendary Rainbow Connection-composer Paul Williams, a guest spot on NBC’s Today Show, two Emmy nods and dozens of commercials including a global “Ghostbusters” campaign with Slimer.
Since 2010 Matt has written, directed and hosted annual shows for The Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Family Series at Boston Symphony Hall. He holds a BA in Musical Theatre from Rhode Island College.
